Other Adventures

Life is more interesting with a little adventure!

Adventure can be found anywhere! Sometimes it’s harder to recognise and sometimes it is really more of a misadventure, but adventures make up the stories we remember and add texture to our lives. This blog is focused on the adventures I find near my home in South Australia or on a mountain skiing, but sometimes I write about adventures in other areas of my life.

Travel

I have always loved to travel and have been very fortunate to have travelled to 35 countries (and counting). Travel is a great way to learn more about the world and yourself, and is full of never ending adventure. We often include some sightseeing and travel as part of our overseas ski trips.

Running

I have been a runner since 1993 and after skiing, running has probably had the biggest influence on my life. Running helps me focus on my goals and keeps me fit so that I can conquer the ski hill. I take part in several running events throughout the Adelaide area, and often we make a weekend trip out of a running event.

Writing

In many ways this blog is an adventure. It has helped me rediscover my love of writing, which I have done from a very young age. Writing helps me preserve my adventures as well.

Posts about my Other Adventures

Zurich For a Day

Any time you have the opportunity to see a new place, even if it is only for a few hours, it is worth it. On our way home from our Austrian Ski Arlberg holiday, we had one night in Zurich, Switzerland. Arrival We returned to Zurich with the Arlberg Express.  The shuttle bus service was […]

Running Injury Update and More Focus

I have exciting news in two parts! I’m back to running – slowly and shorter runs at the moment – but back! My recovery is coming along after my disappointing DNF at the Adelaide Half Marathon. After nearly 1 year of blogging, I like it more and more all the time. I have decided to […]

Adelaide Marathon Festival Review

On Sunday, I took part in the Joggers World Half Marathon, part of the 41st Adelaide Marathon Festival. The Festival includes the Adelaide Marathon, Joggers World Half Marathon, Physio Smart 10km, Embrace 5km, and Race the Popeye Kids Fun Run. Overall, the event seemed well-run with only a few areas for improvement. The Half Marathon […]

Race Report: Adelaide Half Marathon 2019

Sadly this morning’s run did not go as well as I had hoped. In fact, I registered my very first DNF. Making the decision to step out of the race was one of the hardest running decisions I have ever made, even though I’m sure I made the right choice. I hate quitting, and after […]

Jewel at Changi from T3 Link Bridge

Singapore’s New Jewel

Singapore is known for its gardens, interesting architecture, food and shopping. Often, these facets of Singapore’s culture come together. For example, the purple avatar-like Supertrees, which are soaring vertical gardens at Gardens by the Bay that support a several-story high walkway and restaurant, and are home to a nightly light show. If you have had […]

Half Marathon Training Update #1

It’s been one month since I started my training plan and while it is still early days, I feel like I am starting to see some positive results. My plan is focused on keeping my hard days short and quick, and my easy days very easy and slow. The idea is to avoid burning myself […]

Goals and Backing Yourself

One of the hardest things about working towards a goal can be backing yourself. It’s also one of the most important. I’ve said previously that you have to believe a goal is achievable. You also have to be prepared to declare that belief to other people and defend your right to do what is necessary […]

Post-Holiday Fitness

At the start of the year, I decided to set myself a Half Marathon goal but was unsure how my running fitness would be affected by our six week overseas ski holiday. This would have an impact on how quickly I could get into the real work towards achieving my goal, particularly if I lost […]

Why We Had a Destination Wedding

I remember standing in the middle of the room and smiling. I had stopped to take everything in for a moment and it was perfect. The log-framed room was warm and softly-lit from the stone fireplace on the side, the lights in the antler chandeliers and the low candles on the tables. Greenery and pine […]

Half Marathon Training Plan

Today, I started the hard work towards completing a major goal, and I’m kind of excited to begin the process.  I’m feeling a mixture of optimism and determination.  Two months ago, I decided on my running goal for the next two years: break 1:45:00 in the Half Marathon by the end of 2020.  You can […]

The end of a wonderful trip

It has been much longer than I anticipated since my last post.  I really thought that I would be writing and posting while I was on holidays and I am a little disappointed that I did not.  However, it was not a normal trip and I have a lot of good material to write about […]

Setting Goals

Last week, in my post about Running Goals, I wrote about setting my running goal for the next two years. For me, goal setting has always been a natural and important process, but it is also one of those skills that I am always trying to refine and improve. Goals drive me to complete tasks, […]
